Hi, I’m Mima. Author, feminist and mum — and some would say a witch. I say: words are my magic.

The “S” in my name has changed its meaning as my life changed: I was Student Mama, taking university exams with a baby in my arms; Sofia’s Mama, after the little girl who started it all; and “Super” Mama — in quotation marks, because I don’t believe in that title.

The superwoman is a myth — and one of the myths I write about most.

This site began in 2019 as the diary of a Balkan mum in Germany.

Today it is the space of my free, critical voice: I write essays about everything women are expected to be — about relationships without a magic recipe, about motherhood without a manual, about bodies the whole world feels entitled to comment on, about good girls who grow into obedient women — and about witches, those wonderful women who dared to say “no”.

I write from a feminist perspective, because I believe feminism means one thing: every woman’s freedom to choose what she is — and what she refuses to be.

Out of these essays grew my book “Žena, majka, veštica” (Woman, Mother, Witch).

I write in Serbian, English and German, because I live between two worlds and two sets of rules for women — and it is precisely in that gap that you can see most clearly which of those rules are truly ours, and which are merely learned.

I don’t write often, and I don’t write by the rules. I write freely, and I write when I have something to say.

If you’re here, chances are someone once called you “too much”: too loud, too demanding, too much yourself.

Welcome.

Around here, that’s a compliment.

Biography

Mima S-Mama is an author, essayist and feminist, born in Serbia and living in Germany with her husband and daughter. She writes under a pen name whose “S” has changed its meaning over the years — Student Mama, Sofia’s Mama, “Super” Mama — following the roles she lived and the myths she dismantled along the way.

She launched smama.blog in 2019 as the diary of a young mother between two cultures — and over seven years built it into something rare: an author’s platform in three languages, with essays read in Serbian, English and German.

Her writing is known for combining an honest personal voice with sharp social critique — she writes about feminism, motherhood and relationships without sugar-coating and without self-pity, convinced that loving your life and questioning it is not a contradiction.

She holds a degree in journalism and a master’s in media studies — an education that today lives on in her media criticism and writing on culture.

Her first manuscript, “Žena, majka, veštica” (Woman, Mother, Witch), distils years of writing about the roles a woman carries all at once — and the freedom to live them on her own terms.
